The Family Centre carries out and specialises in Community Development programmes which aim to eliminate poverty amongst low income, Maori and Pacific families in the Wellington Region and within the Pacific region where the Family Centre carries out its work.
The Pacific Section carries out development programmes with Pacific women, sole parent women and young people in Lower Hutt teaching them transcribing and translation skills in order to increase their employability and to generate income for themselves’.
Digital Wings has provided laptops for women who are Samoan native speakers to be contracted as translators of documents from English into the Samoan language. This opens up a world of employment for the women who would otherwise be stuck at home and unable to enter the workforce.
